8th Grade Music
Thursdays 8th period
8th graders have started working on their Composer project. Students have chosen composers to research and prepare a fictional concert, in the time period of their composer. Students will create a poster advertising their concert, with time, place, performers and works to be presented (the fictional concert needs to stay under 2 hours..). They will also be working with Mr. Scheff on a power point presentation to present their concert, with interesting facts about their composer. Students must also submit a neat, written or typed, copy of their research on the composer. This project will be due at our second class January. Here is a link to the packet for this project.
There's lots of information availble on the internet. Wikipedia is probably one of the best places to start. Have fun! These people led some REALLY interesting lives.
The 8th graders have some basic music worksheets to complete over Thanksgiving break. Every student, whether musically capable or not right now, will be learning the tools needed to "de-code" music, and pick out tunes on the piano. I don't expect everyone to become concert pianists, but to leave the 8th grade with a basic capability of how to "read" music. If you need copies of the worksheets, they can be found on the links below. Expect a quiz sometime in December.........
