Greetings,
My name is Jeanne Jones and I am the second grade teacher at FCA.
Since my first babysitting job in the 6th grade, I realized that God gave me
a talent for working with children and a genuine love for them. It was easy
to pick my focus of study when I went to Valparaiso University as Elementary
Education. After graduating with my Undergraduate Degree in
elementary/special ed. at Valparaiso, I moved from Indiana to New York to be
near my brother. I immediately got a job in the Arlington school district
teaching 1st grade. While teaching I went to school for my Master's Degree
at SUNY New Paltz. I graduated from there and am permanently certified in
NY state in elementary and special education (Nursery-6th grade).
In 1989 I married my amazing husband, Steve. We celbrated our 20th anniversary last year
and with God at the center, our marriage has been truly
joy-filled. God has given us 3 children, Kaleigh, Jessica and Joshua.
Kaleigh graduated from DCC lsat year, Jessica is in her 1st year at DCC and
Joshua attends the high school at FCA (he's in 9th grade this year).
Prior to starting a family, I taught at Arlington Elementary, and was a
first grade teacher there for 10 years. I then took time off to raise my
children. My husband and I became certified as foster parents, and during
the time I wasn't teaching, we opened our home to 39 foster children. While
my heart is a little sad to give up foster care, I feel strongly about
giving my full attention to my exciting job at FCA....TEACHING!!!
I am a very active congregant of St. John's Lutheran Church in
Poughkeepsie. (Chapel leader for young children, altar guild, Christ Care
group leader and VBS teacher are a few things I do there.) I look forward to
helping children learn and grow academically at FCA, but pray God will use
the time I have with these 2nd graders to encourage, personalize and deepen
their faith in Jesus Christ. God has brought me to this school and has put
me in this class. I have no doubt He has great plans for us this year!
The primary mission of my classroom is 2 fold: for children to love
learning, acquiring and applying information to their full potential and for
them to grow in faith, applying Biblical principals to their everyday lives,
drawing closer in relationship to Jesus.
My desire is to create a classroom atmosphere that is loving, positive,
challenging, nurturing and secure. I want the students to be free to ask
questions and seek answers. I want them to try their best and give forth
effort that reflects the industrious, amazing mind God has given each one of
them. I know this is a tall order, but we have a big God (and a very
enthusiastic second grade teacher!)
