SPELLING NEWS

We have completed all our regular spelling lists and are in the process of reviewing many words from the past units.  (Students got word lists to us as study guides.)  We will use these words in our Spelling Bee on June 18.

Bible:  Our last few Bible units will focus on sharing the good news of Christ to others.  We will read about Paul and Silas bravely telling others about Jesus and His saving grace.  As we step into summer, it is important for students to remember that the same Holy Spirit that empowered Paul and Silas, goes with them as well.  He gives us opportunities to show our faith through words and actions.  When we are kind and loving to others, it attracts people and perhaps they can see how Jesus makes a difference in our attitude and our lives.  My hope and prayer is for everyone to leave FCA for the summer, having experienced the love and grace of Jesus and that all want to share that love and grace with those around them. 

     Here is a list of ideas of how we can share Jesus with others this summer.  This list came entirely from the children.  Great ideas kids!

1.  Talk about Jesus

2.  Praise God and have a good attitude

3.  Show love

4.  Read the bible or other stories that tell about God

5.  Give a bible to someone

6.  forgive others even when they are not nice to us

7.  Share

8.  Follow the Golden Rule

9.  Tell Bible stories to others

10. Help others

11. Remind others about the miracles Jesus did and that he is with us now

12. Sing songs to God or about God

13. Tell stories about missinaries or people who have a testimony about God

14. Take a friend to church

15. Draw a nice picture or make a card for someone who needs some encouragement

16. Pray for others

17. Share a movie (or a Veggie Tales video) with other people

   


Thanks!   Before the close of the school year, I want to take time to say thanks to a few  special parents who gave up their time this year to help in the classroom on a regular basis:  Mrs. Lehigh, Mrs. Martini, Mrs. Loerenzo, Mrs. Hunter and  Mrs. Kim.  Your help was invaluable and greatly appreciated!!!!

       Thanks also to my tireless teacher assistant, Janis Nash.  She is patient, organized, helpful, detailed, responsible, caring, humorous and fun too!  The kids love her and my classroom wouldn't run the same without her special small group tutoring, clerical help and all them many other tasks she performs for our benefit.  Thanks Mrs. Nash!!!


Flag Day:  June 14 is Flag Day and our class will be performing some special songs for other classes and for parents on that day. Please join us in the sanctuary at 2:15 for this special event.  (If Splash Down is postponed on June11, it will be held on June 14 and we will need to move our Flag Day Celebration to June 15, at 2:15.)

Other Information:

School begins at 8:30AM and we don’t waste time getting started!  If you are dropping off your child, it is helpful if he/she could be in school by 8:25 or earlier, so that by the time school starts everything will be unpacked and ready to go.  If your child walks in at 8:30AM, there will be little time for friendly “hellos” with classmates and he/she is likely to feel rushed.

 

If your child is absent, please be sure to send in an excuse note upon the student’s return.  I am required to get a note for each absence for our school records and it will be much easier for me if you remember to send one right away.


RULES:

We brainstormed a list of rules for our classroom and after our board was covered with ideas, we consolidated them all into 5 simple rules that encompass all we talked about.  Here are the classroom rules that are posted in our room and signed by each student:

1.  Keep hands (and body) to yourself.

2.  Respect belongings (yours and other people's).

3.  Respect others.

4.  Do your job! (Do what you are supposed to do, when you are supposed to do it!)

5.  Golden Rule (Treat others the way you want to be treated.)

     Of course students need to be reminded of the rules, but if there is a problem remembering certain rules consistently, a "Time-Out" may be in order.  This is a special spot in the room, away from others, where students can think about how they can change their behavior.  Students may return to the group once they have themselves more under control and feel they are ready to focus.  Other special arrangements may be made, such as sitting in a certain chair when the class is gathered at the rug to help avoid excessive movement or distractions, or sitting at the table during test times when talking is stricty forbidden. Accommodations such as these are made with the student's cooperation to help avoid disciplinary actions and to assist in maintaining self-control.  I try to be as PRO-ACTIVE as possible to avoid problems. 

     If students have recurrent issues in following the rules, regular communication with parents  regarding the day's behavior may be instituted. Students who consistently don't get work done because they are unfocused and distracted, may need to go to detention at lunch time to finish it.  Parents will be notified if this is a continual problem. 

     Although certain students may be more "active" and perhaps more distracted than others, all are held accountable for their choices and for  inappropriate behavior.  However, my hope is that through the efforts of students, parents and myself we can work through any situation or issue in a way that is positive and helpful to all involved.  We want our classroom to be a fun, safe place of learning where all can feel comfortable and loved.
